Who We Are
The Jewish Alliance for Change is a nonprofit 501(c)(4) organization founded to promote Jewish engagement in the political process in pursuit of the common good.
We work to inform and mobilize the American public, catalyzing greater political participation through new online and public forums. We advocate for a progressive domestic and foreign policy agenda, encompassing a wide range of goals including:
- Defending civil rights and freedoms, especially marriage equality;
- Universal access to healthcare and quality education;
- Equitable tax, jobs & economic policies;
- A rational and constitutional approach to US national security;
- Sustainable energy and responsibility towards our environment;
- Diplomatic initiatives for a secure and peaceful Israel and Middle East.
During 2009 and beyond, the organization plans to build on its achievements and mobilize the American Jewish community and the American public to fight for the realization of a broad progressive agenda for change.
In response to the new wave of attacks on the Obama administration’s approach to Israel and the Middle East, we’ve launched an online advocacy campaign to combat the smears and to support President Obama’s bold efforts to achieve a breakthrough towards Middle East peace, a diplomatic solution to the threat of Iranian nuclear weapons, and rapprochement between the US, Israel and the Muslim and Arab worlds. The campaign revolves around three unique websites:
- A cutting edge Obama Smear Busters website – A Project of J Street and the Jewish Alliance for Change – to fight smears and spread the facts about President Obama’s Mideast agenda;
- An Obama Mideast Myths and Facts website which provides the best responses to a wide range of myths about President Obama’s approach to Israel and the Middle East;
- A Say No To War With Iran website which makes the case for President Obama's strategy of diplomacy, détente and nuclear deterrence with Iran instead of pre-emptive war. The website tracks the most persuasive statements from high ranking Israeli and US military, intelligence and government officials and analysts who oppose a pre-emptive attack on Iran and favor a sustained US diplomatic effort to reach détente with Iran—an approach which has the best chance of preventing Iran’s development of nuclear weapons through a negotiated and intrusively monitored agreement.

During 2008, The Jewish Alliance for Change also conducted an innovative multimedia outreach initiative to educate the Jewish community about the issues at stake in the presidential campaign and how they connect with authentic Jewish values, to promote better understanding of the policies advocated by Senator Obama, and to defend against smears from the Republican right of concern to the American Jewish community.
The Jewish Alliance for Change succeeded in reaching millions of voters in battleground states and across the country with our Israelis for Obama web video and pro-Obama TV and internet ad series Ain't Funny with comedic icons Carl Reiner, Jerry Stiller, Anne Meara, Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman, Valerie Harper, Garry Marshall and Larry Gelbart.
We sent thousands of buttons to Jewish voters in key swing states with Bubbe for Barack/Biden, Jewish Mama for Obama, L'Shana Obama and other messages to strengthen the Jewish vote for Obama and Biden.
We launched a comprehensive communications campaign to reach the American Jewish community which significantly impacted this election and beyond. We
- devised intensive online viral marketing and web outreach campaigns that spoke eloquently to millions of Jewish hearts and minds;
- created powerful web videos to spread compelling visual stories and dramatic messages more widely, linked to the first Web Resource Center with anti-smear information on a variety of topics of concern to American Jews;
- distributed high impact emails, web videos, online petitions, e-newsletters, web pages, and other rapid response online resources when major new opportunities emerged to expand Jewish community support for Senator Obama and to discourage support for his opponent;
- delivered hard-hitting messages to Americans who had not yet been engaged, helping to secure the swing vote that was in jeopardy, especially in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
